The importance of umbrella insurance
Umbrella insurance provides liability protection for losses that exceed the limits of your underlying policies. One umbrella policy can add a million or more in liability coverage to your auto, home, motorcycle, and other insurance policies. At Scheff Insurance, we’ll explain your coverage, why it’s important, and help you find great rates by automatically comparing quotes from up to 20 top insurance companies. Contact us or get quotes to get started.

Covers bodily injury and/or property damage you cause to another party with your vehicle, in excess of your auto policy limits.
Covers damage or injury you or a resident family member cause to another, in excess of your home policy limits.
Covers bodily injury and/or property damage you cause to another party with your watercraft, in excess of your boat policy limits.
Covers bodily injury you sustain in an accident with a driver that has too little or no insurance, in excess of your auto policy limits.
Covers your liability exposures even while traveling abroad.
There are even more optional coverages that might be right for you.
An umbrella policy is designed to work in conjunction with other insurance policies. It provides liability coverage but it doesn’t kick in until the claim exceeds a specified amount. For example, let’s assume you have an auto policy with a $500k limit and an umbrella with a $1M limit. If you’re at fault in an accident where several people are hurt and the total bill comes out to $850k, your auto policy would cover the first $500k and your umbrella would cover the next $350k.
