Common questions

How does umbrella insurance work?

An umbrella policy is designed to work in conjunction with other insurance policies. It provides liability coverage but it doesn’t kick in until the claim exceeds a specified amount. For example, let’s assume you have an auto policy with a $500k limit and an umbrella with a $1M limit. If you’re at fault in an accident where several people are hurt and the total bill comes out to $850k, your auto policy would cover the first $500k and your umbrella would cover the next $350k.
